In an effort to preserve our cemeteries as natural and serene places, free of hazards, the Chichester CemeteryTrustees have adopted the following: INTERMENTS 

  1. Said premises shall be used for no other purpose than as a place of interment of human remains
  2. Neither vaults nor caskets are required for burial
  3. Up to two urns may be buried on top of an existing grave.
  4. The Cemetery Trustees must be notified in advance of all interments.   

MARKERS AND MONUMENTS

  1. Only one above-ground monument not to exceed 3 feet in height nor 3 feet in width and composed of stone, may be installed on a cemetery lot.
  2. Any above-ground monument must be mounted on a permanent foundation and installed under the supervision of a Cemetery Trustee.
  3. Individual grave markers and the four required cornerstones shall be set at ground level.

LANDSCAPING AND DECORATIONS

  1. The surface of the lot must remain grass-covered.
  2. NO ITEMS other than live plants are permitted on a gravesite, and placement does not exceed a distance of 12” from the stone
  3. No trees, shrubs, or hedges shall be planted on a lot. No fencing or curbing shall be permitted.
  4. The Cemetery Trustees reserve the right to remove prohibited or deteriorated objects as well as objects that present a danger to maintenance personnel or equipment.
  5. The only American flags allowed in the cemetery are those placed by the Cemetery Trustees on veterans’ graves. Temporary display of other flags may be possible after an application is made to the Cemetery Trustees.

   

GENERAL RULES

  1. Cemetery hours are dawn to dusk.
  2. All cemeteries are normally closed to vehicle traffic for the winter or when weather conditions warrant, as determined by the Cemetery Trustees.
  3. Maintenance/upkeep will be under the supervision of the Cemetery Trustees.
  4. Gravestone rubbings are prohibited by state law.
