The Cemetery Trustees, Ruth Hammen, Fred Shaw and Brenda Boswak met on June 1, 2026 @ 11:55 a.m. at the Historical Society building.
OLD BUSINESS
The damaged chain-link fence at Leavitt Cemetery has been repaired and paid for by Ian Berkeley as the debris from a tree that fell from his property damaged the fence. Boy Scout troop #90 Pack #90 assisted with placing flags on veterans’ gravesites on May 16, 2026.
No progress on the bidding process for the removal of trees in the cemeteries. We will ask for an update at Department Heads meeting tomorrow night.
We contacted the Town Treasurer about a discrepancy we found in the 2025 Cemetery General Expense spreadsheet. The Treasurer, Robyn LeBreton mentioned to Brenda that she has not forgotten about this request.
NEW BUSINESS
It has come to the attention of the Cemetery Trustees that a trust was never created for Dede Hammond at the time of purchase of a burial lot in Row #3 lot #7 in Pineground Cemetery. The Trustees of the Trust Funds have initiated the creation of a trust in the amount of $130.
Fred renewed the Cemetery Trustees’ website and submitted a payment request to the Town of Chichester, for reimbursement, to be paid from Cemetery General Expenses. Ruthie planted geraniums in time for Memorial Day, at the Leavitt lots in Leavitt Cemetery, as required per Leavitt trusts.
Ryan Goldsmith, Arbortech, met with the Trustees via phone to discuss submitting a bit for the cemetery tree removal project. We encouraged him to submit his bid.
Ruthie and Brenda met with Don Cotnoir, NH Monuments, at Batchelder Cemetery to discuss the project of replacing the iron gate post with a granite post. He will put this on his schedule to complete for this season. Don will submit his estimate to us.
We discussed the possibility of cleaning the Hazen Leavitt gravestones and monuments using the J. Myron Trust. The Leavitt monument and gravestones are large, prominent and artistically beautiful. Cleaning and repairing these would highlight a beautiful sight upon entrance to the burial areas.
Brenda will contact Garry Kalajian for an update on the Kaime Cemetery gates.
The Cemetery Trustees have requested the Select Board to appoint Gloria Beachy and Peter A. Hammen as Cemetery Trustee Alternates for a one-year term. No update on this.
Brenda will attend the Department Heads Meeting tomorrow night, June 2, 2026. The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Brenda Boswak, Cemetery Trustee, Secretary
