The Cemetery Trustees, Ruth Hammen, Fred Shaw and Brenda Boswak met on September 7, 2026, at the Historical Society building.
OLD BUSINESS
The Selectmen’s meeting with Department Heads on September 1, 2026, revealed a possible conflict with the tree removal project at Fellows-Webster Cemetery on Swiggey Brook Road, scheduled for September 15-17, 2026, and the Road Agent’s paving project on that road scheduled for the week of September 8, 2026. The Select Board scheduled a meeting for tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. for a discussion with the contractor, Accurate Tree, (via telephone) and in person with Road Agent Joe McDaniels and Cemetery Trustee Brenda Boswak to clarify if having heavy equipment on Swiggey Brook Road after new paving will damage the road. We requested a notice be posted on the town website notifying residents of the closure of Leavitt Cemetery September 15-17, 2026.
The cornerstones for the Rauder lot and the Crete lot have been installed at Leavitt Cemetery by NH Monuments. We will discuss the options for using other cornerstone vendors at our January 2027 meeting.
NH Monuments, Don Cotnoir is nearing completion of the Batchelder Cemetery gate.
Brenda will notify Don of the date of the tree removal work scheduled for Kaime Cemetery.
NEW BUSINESS
Garry Kalajian, Ararat Forge, plans to conduct a trial fitting for the gates at Kaime Cemetery the week of September 14, 2026. Brenda will notify him of the tree removal project taking place that week at Kaime Cemetery.
We have finalized our revisions to the ‘Right to Inter’ contract, Payment Authorization forms and Rules & Regulations we use and Fred will upload them to google drive.
Fred has followed up with the Trustees of the Trust for making corrections to the misspelling of the cemetery trust names for Madeline & Lance Kilmister and Richard & Carolee Davison.
It was discovered there is a trust information index card with the name of Zachary Taylor but no contract/deed paperwork associated with it. Fred researched and found a cemetery deed with the name of Nancy Oakes, mother of Zachary Yates, who died as an infant. The Cemetery Trustees suggested to rename the trust to ‘Nancy Oakes/Zachary Taylor’ trust.
Brenda has ordered gravestone cleaner to work on gravestones at Pineground Cemetery & True Cemetery.
Information was discovered on Findagrave pertaining to Walter King’s interment in Leavitt Cemetery. Ruthie verified with a friend of the family that he is not interred at Leavitt Cemetery. Brenda will notify Findagrave of the error.
The Cemetery Trustees have received inquiries about green burials. Brenda is still working on a draft of the topics related to the green burial process, to create a policy. The Trustees will continue discussion at the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Brenda Boswak, Cemetery Trustee, Secretary
